Applications

HPC Applications can be find in almost all industries. This page tries to give a glimpse to the HPC application map.

Computed Aided Engineering (CAE)

CAE tools such as Computer Software used to analyse CAD geometry are being used, for example, to analyse the robustness and performance of components and assemblies and include simulation, validation, and optimisation of products and manufacturing.CAE  is used in many fields such as automotive, aviation, space, and more.

CAE covers the following areas:

Finite Element Analysis (FAE)

Stress analysis on mechanical components and assembly, Crash simulations and more.

LS-DYNA

Elmer

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

CFD is a thermal and fluid flow analysis. It enables the study of the dynamics of things that flow as well as enables better understanding of qualitative and quantitative physical phenomena in the flow which is used to improve engineering design.
CFD brings together a number of different disciplines such as fluid dynamics, mathematical theory of partial differential systems, computational geometry, numerical analysis and computer science.

This field include several applications such as:

ANSYS Fluent

MetaComp

NALU

NEK5000

Nektar++

OpenFoam

Other areas of research and applications include

  • Multibody dynamics (MBD)
  • Computational Electromagnetics (CEM)
  • Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
  • Multidisciplinary Design Exploration (MDX)
  • Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)
  • Process simulation for operations (casting, molding, and die press forming).
